Christian Wood
WOOD, William Christian III, was born on January 28, 2000 and passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018, while pursuing his passion of white water kayaking. Christian was a senior at Trinity Episcopal High School and was an International Baccalaureate diploma candidate. He was an active member of the Trinity Outdoor Program and a staff member at Passages Adventure Camp. He had been accepted at Virginia Tech and planned to study physics. His love of kayaking had taken him to rivers across the United States with his mentors and coaches, Michael Stratton and Cooper Sallade and he was planning to kayak the Nile River. Christian is survived by his parents, April and Bill Wood; and his sister, Alison Wood. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William C. and Gladys M. Wood. He is survived by his maternal grandparents, Mary H. and Michael L. Spearman; his aunt, Judith W. Kelley; his uncles, Chris Spearman and Brian Spearman (Caprice); and cousins, Caitlin, Brandon, Logan, Copeland, Riley, Haley and Madeline. Christian is also survived by his two best friends, also known as the "Christmas Trio," Trevor Sehlhorst and George Bundy. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, February 18, at Walnut Grove Baptist Church, located at 7046 Cold Harbor Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. A graveside service will be held in Hollywood Cemetery, overlooking the James River, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 20. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Christian's memory to Trinity Episcopal School, in support of the Outdoor Program (3850 Pittaway Drive, Richmond, Va. 23235) or trinityes.org/give.
